ScaleMP Announces Support for Dell PowerEdge M610 Blades Featuring Intel Nehalem Processors
vSMP Foundation 2.0 Delivers Dramatic Performance Boost for HPC Applications
Cupertino, Calif. – March 30, 2009 – ScaleMP, a leading provider of virtualization solutions for high-end computing, is announcing today the support for DellPowerEdge M610 blades, featuring the Intel® Xeon® processor 5500 series (Nehalem). vSMP Foundation and the Dell PowerEdge M610 blades deliver the industry’s highest memory bandwidth and FLOPS for shared-memory x86 systems. This solution is the first system to overcome the 2-socket limitation of Intel’s Nehalem processor, scaling up to 32 sockets shared memory system (128 cores and 4TB RAM).
vSMP Foundation aggregates multiple industry-standard off-the-shelf x86 servers (rack mounted or blade systems) into one single virtual high-end system for the High-Performance Computing (HPC) market. vSMP Foundation provides customers with an alternative to traditional expensive symmetrical multiprocessor (SMP) systems and also offers simplified clustering infrastructure with a single operating system.
“Dell is focused on helping more organizations experience the benefits of high performance computing by delivering HPC solutions built on industry standard hardware and software building blocks. Our mission is to drive simplification of HPC by collaborating with best of breed in the HPC industry and by integrating technologies to serve our customer’s specific needs.”, said Reza Rooholamini, director of Enterprise Solutions Engineering, Dell. “By utilizing industry standard building blocks to solve all their computational problems, organizations of all sizes can easily expand their HPC capabilities so that time, money, and people can be used more effectively to meet their mission objectives.”
“ScaleMP and Dell have an excellent partnership that is delivering top performance, large memory and cost savings to our mutual HPC customers today,” said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. “We have seen up to 3X performance improvement with Intel’s Nehalem processor compared to the previous generation product. Dell customers will be able to further leverage vSMP Foundation to solve even larger problems than today and accelerate time to market and innovation.”
ScaleMP is the leader in virtualization for high-end computing, providing maximum performance and lower Total Cost of Ownership (TCO). The innovative Versatile SMP™ (vSMP) architecture aggregates multiple x86 systems into a single virtual x86 system, delivering an industry-standard, high-end symmetric multiprocessor (SMP) computer. Using software to replace custom hardware and components, ScaleMP offers a new, revolutionary computing paradigm. The company is backed by Sequoia Capital, Lightspeed Venture Partners, TL Ventures, and ABS Ventures. For more information, please call +1 (408) 342-0330 or visitwww. ScaleMP.com.
