By virtualizing standard Intel-based servers, the vSMP Foundation aggregation platform provides large CPU and large memory system solutions at a fraction of the price of alternatives -- proprietary scale-up systems based on RISC processors. The vSMP Foundation solution allows customers to purchase only the system hardware they need for their applications and eliminate the forklift upgrade when considering larger CPU or memory scale in the future. While there are a number of application and solution areas that the ScaleMP solution could address, the Company is focused on a few key industries and applications best suited for large scale-up environments. High performance computing (HPC) is at the heart of this focus.

High performance computing generally describes those application areas that benefit from a large number of processing cores or threads and / or necessitate the manipulation of large amounts of data or large file sizes. In addition, vSMP Foundation for Cluster is focused on a growing area in high performance computing: high performance clusters running highly parallelized codes across multiple nodes. The dominant operating environment in these HPC implementations is Linux or Linux derivations such as CentOS. vSMP Foundation supports nearly all off-the-shelf Linux distributions including those from Red Hat and Suse.

Across the broad range of high performance solutions, ScaleMP has unique performance and applications expertise in Financial Services, Manufacturing (process and discrete), as well as Life Sciences (including healthcare, biotech, and pharmaceutical) industries.

Outside of high performance computing, the combination of vSMP Foundation and Intel-based servers provide a unique large memory solution for large data warehousing environments for numerical simulation and data analysis. Virtually all large corporations have data warehousing requirements that are growing ever larger every day. The ability to run large simulations in memory has always been a competitive advantage of proprietary RISC solutions. However with vSMP Foundation, customers can now configure over 4TB in a single system and run their entire data warehouse in memory!
