ScaleMP Offers Migration Plan for SGI Customers Worried by SGIs Recent Financial Announcement

Innovative provider of virtualization solutions for high-end computing targets SGI customers with enhanced migration plan

Cupertino, Calif. – February 13, 2012 – ScaleMP announces a migration path for SGI customers. Following SGI’s recently published financial results, with its recent quarter loss announcement as well as its stated restructuring in Europe, ScaleMP will offer a competitive upgrade path for SGI customers looking to turn off their SGI equipment and move to ScaleMP’s flagship Versatile SMP™ (vSMP) architecture. This architecture allows for the creation of shared-memory systems with up to 16,384 CPUs and 64 TB RAM. The migration plan includes an increased services element as well as a platform longevity plan, and is available through ScaleMP’s channel partners. A list of channel partners is available on More information about this new migration plan is available at:

ScaleMP’s vSMP Foundation™ software delivers an effective alternative to proprietary, costly symmetric multiprocessing (SMP) systems. By aggregating the compute, memory and I/O resources of multiple industry standard x86 servers into one a virtual SMP, customers benefit from the traditional SMP programming and operational model, coupled with higher performance driven by the most recent processors and a lower cost infrastructure. vSMP Foundation is available for both AMD Opteron 6200 series (Interlagos) and the upcoming Intel processors, code-named “Sandy Bridge”. The on-demand nature of vSMP Foundation provides infrastructure flexibility, higher system utilization and reduced management complexity.

“With recent industry shifts, users are becoming concerned for the stability of their current high-performance technology provider. Our migration plan is designed to make the transition from older SGI systems to lower cost vSMP Foundation solutions even simpler,” said Shai Fultheim, founder and CEO of ScaleMP. “Through this enhanced plan, more customers will be able to create larger and higher performing virtual SMPs that will lower the TCO for their organizations – enabling them to focus their time and budgets on their business and scientific needs.”
About vSMP Foundation vSMP Foundation aggregates multiple industry-standard off-the-shelf AMD or Intel x86 servers into a single virtual high-end system. vSMP Foundation provides customers with an alternative to traditional expensive symmetrical multiprocessing (SMP) systems and also offers simplified clustering infrastructure with a single operating system. It supports aggregation of up to 128 servers into a single virtual SMP system, providing customers with:

  • Up to 64 TB of shared memory for large memory requirements
  • Up to a 1,024 processor, 10,240 core virtual SMP, proven scalability and record-breaking memory bandwidth
  • Ease of use and lowest total cost of ownership (TCO) for clusters coupled with simplified storage architecture
  • On-demand SMP with support for most common provisioning systems, allowing for increased datacenter utilization with consolidated architecture
